Job Title:  Support Worker/Domiciliary support worker

Job Purpose: To provide a high quality service to our users within our residential services and within their own homes

Accountable to: Responsible Individual, Registered Managers and Assistant Service Managers

 

Responsibilities:

Inclusion and Promoting Independence.

  • Provide support, advocacy and information to the individuals we support.

 

  • Provide emotional and practical support to service users.

 

  • Help service users meet their personal care needs sensitively and appropriately to a high standard, including personal hygiene, assistance with laundry, and preparing meals and drinks.

 

  • To provide continuity and consistency of support, both physical and emotional to the users of our service which reflect individual changing needs.  The support should be provided in a manner that promotes independence.

 

  • Support service users to take any prescribed medication and PRN medication in line with current legislation and company policies and procedures.

 

  • Promote service user participation and independence in all areas of their life.  This is to be achieved by providing clear information, opportunity, training/skills teaching, encouragement and support.

 

  • Include service users when identifying their support needs.  Enable service users to have control and choice in respect of their needs.

 

  • Assist in devising, implementing and reviewing care plans.  Ensure that all implemented plans are current and valid.

 

  • Support service users to actively contribute to the running of the service.

 

  • Create opportunities for social and leisure activities with members of the public.

 

  • Introduce service users to a range of facilities and amenities in the local neighbourhood and wider community.

 

  • To ensure that service users are encouraged and empowered, to express their opinions and views in all areas of decision making, both at individual and organisational level.

 

  • Ensure that each individual is supported as far as possible to exercise their rights in all areas of their lives.

 

  • Maintain and build relationships with members of the care team and other professionals involved in the care and support of service users.

 

  • Liaise with Day Service providers.

 

Administration.

  • Assist in writing, receiving and updating individual care plans in conjunction with the Registered Manager/Assistant Service Manager.

 

  • Assist and participate in the wide range of administrative tasks necessary for the effective running of the service.

 

  • To keep detailed, factual and legible data on the care provided to our service users.

 

  • Follow all of the company’s financial procedures.  Ensure accurate and detailed financial recordings are made.

 

Self Development.

  • All staff are expected to attend regular supervision to ensure an effective working relationship.  It is expected that staff will work towards a relevant qualification to their role.  Staff are to participate in an annual appraisal and using this process, will highlight goals and aspirations on a regular basis.

 

  • Staff must attend regular training sessions to ensure a high quality of service.  Any training needs must be personally identified and discussed with the relevant line manager.  Members of staff are expected to effectively communicate with colleagues regarding issues relating to individual service users, the service and the organisation.

 

  • Staff must attend regular team meetings.

 

Timesheets and Expenses.

  • Staff must keep accurate records of hours worked, and the completion and timely submission of timesheets.
  • Accurate recordings to be kept on expense claim forms.  Only when staff have the appropriate level of insurance and have submitted valid driving documentation, can any claims for fuel be accepted.

 

Organisational Requirements.

  • Follow all company policies and procedures.  These must be read, understood and signed in all cases.

 

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding the service users and staff.

 

  • Promote equality of opportunity and a respect for diversity. 

 

Health and Safety.

  • Participate in rotas, which will include day, evening weekend and Bank Holiday working.  Also sleeping-in and waking duties at night.

 

  • Assist in health and safety assessments, follow health and safety procedures and participate in regular fire drills and audits.

 

  • Report any maintenance and repair tasks in the service to the Registered Manager/ Assistant Service Manager.

 

  • Ensure that all health and safety checks are carried out on a regular basis and all paperwork is completed in a clear and timely manner.

 

Team Building.

  • Providing support and flexibility to colleagues during absence, sickness, and emergency situations.


  • Coordination with colleagues to provide a cohesive , consistent and high quality service.


  • Participate in and contribute to team meetings.

 

  • Share with colleagues any previous experience, skills and knowledge, which may enhance the service we provide.

 

  • Undertake any new duties to encourage the changing role of the post as directed by the Registered Manager/Director.
